 Call For PapersFunctional-structural plant models combine one or more elements of
plant function with spatially-explicit models of plant architecture.
Applications include fundamental plant biology, and decision support
systems for agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. The workshop
FSPM07, the fifth in the series, will be held in Napier, New Zealand,
November 4-9, 2007. Paper submissions are invited in all aspects of
functional-structural plant modeling, including, but not limited to:
 Functional-structural models of plants and plant communities:
regulation of plant development and structure;resource acquisition, transport, allocation, and use;plant biomechanics;hormonal control and signaling;plant interaction with the environment;
Models of plant environments
e.g. light, water, temperature, insects, pathogens;
Molecular-level computational biology of plants
e.g. models of auxin transport, molecular genetics of plant
development, models of plant tissues;
Biological concepts underpinning FSPM
e.g. autonomy and competition between plant modules;
Mathematics and algorithms for FSPM
e.g. L-systems, Markov chains, Petri nets, multiresolution modeling;
Modeling softwareApplications of FSPM to horticulture, agriculture, and forestry;Applications of FSPM to fundamental biology;Experimental methods for FSPM
e.g. measurements of plant architecture, microscopic imagery;
Validation and verification of FSPM;Visualization of FSPM.
 Paper submissionExtended abstracts of oral presentations (3 pages) and abstracts of
posters (1 page) are solicited. All abstracts will be reviewed by the
Program Committee,
following the same submission and notification
deadlines. All accepted abstracts will be included in the workshop
proceedings. Abstracts should be submitted electronically to the abstract submission
website as PDF or Microsoft Word documents. A formatting example
for an oral presentation abstract can be downloaded
here;
poster abstracts should follow the same
format, but are restricted to a single page. Please note that the conference
proceedings will be printed in black and white. Abstract submissions due: March 19, 2007Submission date extended to March 26, 2007Notification of acceptance: May 31, 2007Camera ready abstracts due: June 29, 2007
 Special issue of Functional Plant BiologyAuthors of accepted abstracts are invited to submit a full paper to
the special FSPM 07 issue of Functional Plant Biology (Volume 35,
Issue 5, 2008). All topics included in the conference program are
eligible. The full papers will be reviewed by at least two reviewers,
according to the normal standards of Functional Plant Biology. Members
of the FSPM Program Committee will participate in the organization of
the reviewing process. The journal anticipates publication of up to
24 full FSPM papers according to the following schedule: The issue number of FPB devoted to FSPM07 has been
changed. For current deadlines and other important dates, see the Important Dates page.
