This interactive database contains descriptions of approximately 200 native and introduced woody plant species found in the Canadian prairie provinces, plus many of their associated cultivars. It includes background information on their morphology, landscape usage, pests and problems, as well as their place in prairie culture.

The database is intended as a guide for the selection and use of plants in the landscape, and has been designed for a broad range of users - from serious students of woody landscape plants, including horticulturalists, landscape designers, and nursery growers, to home gardeners interested in landscaping and improving their knowledge of woody plants.

Bill Remphrey (1948-2024)

Our colleague and friend, Bill Remphrey, wanted this database made available to another generation of landscape enthusiasts.

He originally developed the database as a CD-ROM, but it is accessible here for download to any Windows machine.
